Leo Pekkala

Dr Leo Pekkala is a distinguished expert in Media and Information Literacy, with extensive experience in research, higher education, teacher training and sustainable development across both developing and developed contexts. As the Deputy Director of the National Audiovisual Institute (KAVI) and Head of the Media Education and Audiovisual Media Department, Dr Pekkala oversees the national promotion and coordination of media education and media literacy in Finland. He represents Finland in number of international organisations promoting media literacy.  Additionally, he serves as Finland’s highest authority on audiovisual content classification, including age ratings for films, television programmes and digital games.
