James Gomez

Dr James Gomez is the Regional Director of the Asia Centre. He is a political scientist with vast international experience working for international NGOs, intergovernmental organisations, public and private universities, research institutes and thinktanks. He presently oversees Asia Centre operations across its four offices: Research Hub and AI Hub (Bangkok, Thailand), Media Hub (Johor Bahru, Malaysia) and Training Hub (Phnom Penh, Cambodia). At the Centre, Dr Gomez is leading the Centre’s efforts to research and develop strategies to counter disinformation. In March 2025, he edited Kyoto Review of Southeast Asia Issue 40 “Eroding Electoral Integrity: Reasons for Democratic Backsliding in Southeast Asia”. Dr Gomez holds a PhD from Monash University, Australia.
